Unleashing Your Business Potential Through Human Design with Jenna Garagiola
Feeling like you're forcing square pegs into round holes with your business strategies? You're not alone. In this illuminating conversation, Jenna Gargiola reveals how Human Design – a comprehensive system that maps your unique energetic blueprint based on your birth data – can transform your approach to business and life.
Jenna shares her remarkable journey from struggling makeup artist in Hollywood (despite an impressive celebrity client roster) to becoming The Soulful Business Strategist. Her pivotal realization came after three frustrating years as a coach making zero dollars while "doing all the things" experts told her to do. Everything changed when she discovered Human Design and aligned her business with her natural energy patterns.
The conversation dives deep into understanding Generator energy (making up 35% of the population) and how it can be harnessed for business success. Generators possess magnetic energy and a defined sacral center that provides sustainable life force – but only when they're engaged in activities that genuinely excite them. When Generators try to force strategies that create internal resistance or dread, they either attract no clients or the wrong clients, perpetuating negative energy cycles.
Perhaps most revolutionary is Jenna's straightforward advice: "If it feels gross, don't do it." This challenges the common entrepreneurial narrative that success requires following specific formulas or enduring unpleasant tasks. Instead, Human Design suggests that sustainable success comes from operating in alignment with your natural energy, creating a business that feels good and magnetizes positive opportunities.

No, no, you're fine. Oh there it is. Hi and welcome to the next episode of Overcome Yourself, the podcast. As you know, my name is Nicole and I'm so excited to be here today with Jenna and I love Jenna. Jenna is part of my coaches group, so the coach that I meet with that I talk to you guys about sometime, and so I love Jenna. Like we hang out every week in our in our coaching calls. But I've also participated in one of Jenna's challenges and I got to learn all about my human design, how I work like, how it aligns my whole life, Like I got some good news. I got some bad news. I didn't love the name that I got, but the meaning of it was absolutely beautiful and Jenna is just such a powerhouse when it comes to teaching women, men, anybody, entrepreneurs how human design relates to their business. And before I chop it up anymore, I'm going to go ahead and let you take it away, Jenna. Please introduce yourself, Tell us who you are and who you help, and tell us all about human design.
Speaker 2:Hello everybody. My name is Jenna. I am the soulful business strategist. Basically, I help you use your human design to take the ick out of your business. So if you've ever felt like you've been forcing things to work in your business and they just aren't working and it feels gross, or if you ever felt like you were in resistance to a strategy that that one coach told you you had to do in order to be successful, I'm here to help you find your solution to making business fun, to making it effortless and to making it impactful, all using your human design, that's cool.
Speaker 1:I love it. Yeah, so tell us a little bit about your background, jenna, like how did you end up here? How did you overcome yourself to end up at such an amazing like an amazing crossroad, amazing niche that you have?
Speaker 2:It is such a crazy long winding road kind of story. I started as a makeup and hair artist in Los Angeles and I've been doing that for 25 years now. It was. I celebrated so many major highs in my career as a makeup artist. I was working with celebrities, I went on tour with musicians, I did red carpet stuff. I had the kind of career that a lot of makeup and hair people across the nation would have looked at and been like, oh my gosh, I'm so jealous, but y'all, my gosh, I'm so jealous, but y'all. My bank account did not match that. I was constantly struggling to pay rent, to keep food on my table, to keep the lights on. I never had a savings account.
Speaker 2:I always referred to myself as a starving artist and it took me a whole nationwide pandemic shutdown and a complete and total pivot in my life to really see all the ways that I had been holding myself back in my career the whole time. So from there, a lot of mindset work, a lot of self-awareness, a lot of overcoming myself ensued so that I could get over all those ways that I was holding myself back, because I really could have gone so much bigger in that career and I really could have been making money hand over fist in that career. But, you know, there was imposter syndrome, there was low self-esteem, there was just all this like limiting belief around who I was as an artist and what I was capable of. So in 2020, when the world shut down, my career shut down because all of Hollywood just went dark and I had nothing to do, and so, you know, I sat on the couch in complete and utter depression for a couple of months. But then I picked myself up and I was like, okay, I can't sit here forever like just saying my life sucks and I'm not making money.
Speaker 2:Um, I decided to go all in on creating a bridal beauty business, cause I noticed that people who worked in weddings is something I had always poo-pooed before. They were still making money and they were making good money, and I was like, why can't I do that? So I started to create a business. I hired a business coach so I could actually treat it like a business and, for the very first time in my life, I was looking at my artistry like a business instead of referring to myself as a starving, struggling artist. That was when I really just started to realize all those ways that I'd been keeping myself small. I worked to overcome all of those things, to shift my mindset. I realized that there were other women doing the same things to themselves holding themselves back in whatever way, keeping themselves small in whatever way because of things that they've been told taught what they formulated as a belief. So I knew I wanted to help them, and not just in the world of makeup and hair. I knew I wanted to actually help them with their mindset, their beliefs. So I wanted to become a coach.
Speaker 2:I had no idea how to become a coach. That in and of itself is a whole long, windy, twisty road, my road to being a coach, but somewhere along the way I stumbled across human design, and learning that system, understanding that system and how it applied for me started to change everything. And then, at one point in time, I had this total light bulb connection of let's connect my human design to my business, let's use my specific and unique traits and characteristics of my human design directly in how I do my business. And that is when I actually started making money as a coach, because up until that point it had been crickets. There I feel like I'm rambling, sorry, no, fantastic.
Speaker 2:There's been this, this trend on Instagram lately where people say like I'm X years old and I'm not ashamed to admit and mine was I'm a 47 year old business coach who's not ashamed to admit that for the first three years of my business, I made $0. And the reason why is because I was so caught up in my head about making sure I was doing it right and not making the wrong choices Right, that I was making choices that didn't align with me. I was implementing strategies that felt icky, I was forcing myself to do things that felt like a total energy zapper, that drained me, that made me not excited about my business. But I was showing up every single day doing all the things and it got to the point where I'm like in tears. I'm doing everything right, I'm doing all the things, I'm constantly working, I'm exhausted all the time. I haven't made a single sale. And that's when that light bulb moment happened and I was like, wait a second, what if I'm doing all the wrong things? And that's why I'm not making any sales.
Speaker 2:So I found a way to first it was with expression and communication use my voice according to my human design, and that's what people finally started to respond to and engage with me and take notice of me. And then I started to branch out and see well, how else can I apply my human design to what I'm doing? So my voice, my brand identity, my purpose with my business, how I lead people, how I lead myself, how I schedule my week, how I show up, when I show up, when I don't show up, all the things, it's all done according to my human design. So that's what brought me here today.
Speaker 1:So I want to know for the people in the audience who maybe are not familiar with human design, because you know, we, we get in our spaces right and then we're we're talking with people who are very familiar or they're doing the same things as us, but then we go outside of those circles and human design is not as something that is familiar. So can you give us like a quick rundown of cause? I know it's really big, but can you kind of explain what it is rundown?
Speaker 2:of, because I know it's really big, but can you kind of explain what it is? Yes, absolutely. Human design is a. It's considered the science of differentiation, which means it's basically a study of how every single one of us are completely unique from the other. Like there are eight plus billion people in this world, human design says that not one single one of us is like the other. We are all unique. What it does is it utilizes your birth information the exact time, the exact location and the day that you were born and it basically takes that information, sees how the planets aligned and creates this entire blueprint for you. So it has some similarities to astrology. Human design, the system itself actually layers several other existing sciences and systems like astrology, like the chakras, like Kabbalah Tree of Life, the Chinese I Ching, which is a very ancient system, quantum physics. It utilizes all of these different sciences and systems and like synthesizes them kind, of, layers them together to see how they all play together, and it, just like I said, takes your birth data to create this blueprint according to exactly how the planets aligned that moment that you came onto this earth and it tells you everything about you.
Speaker 2:Now, it's not something for those of you who don't know what human design is. It's not something that is specifically applied to business. It is an overall blueprint for who you are and how you are in this world in your most natural state of being. Before your parents told you who to be, before your teachers and the media and the government all told you what you had to be. Human design is who you actually are before all of that. So I personally apply it to my business, but you can use it for everything in life Relationships. I found it's very impactful when you're looking at your relationships with other people. My husband uses it in his acting career. He utilizes it when he's writing characters, which is really cool. In fact, we've even thought to do like a whole workshop with actors using human design so they can like come at their character study from a whole new level. So it really is so diverse and multifaceted that it is, like I said, an overall blueprint for your entire existence.
Speaker 1:Amazing. That is as comprehensive as it can get if you have not gotten into human design.
Speaker 1:Like Jenna said, there's it's so specific and there's so many different specifications, there's so many different areas and so it's kind of hard to explain. So the best thing to do is like jump into Jenna's group and get one of her readings. But let's use me as an example. So I know for a fact that, like one of the big categories that you can be is like, for example, I'm a generator and that's like one of the first things that we identified. So can you tell me a little bit about what that means for me and other people who might be generators, how we can use that in our business?
Speaker 2:So human design, like you said, is so vast it has over a thousand touch points or pieces of information about you are layered into this chart, and so it can feel really overwhelming for somebody who stumbles upon human design for the first time. You're like, oh my God, I don't know what any of this means. Here's the cool thing about human design you don't have to, because it is actually who you already are. It's like reading your own owner's manual. All you have to do is start being in alignment with the most basic components, the foundational components of human design, and all those other thousands of touch points or pieces of information just fall into place naturally. It's just who you are Like. You don't have to do anything, it's just you're just allowing it to shine through. So what are the foundational components? So the biggest piece that you'll hear when you stumble across human design is what's your type? There are five types in human design. You could be a manifester, a generator, like Nicole, a manifesting generator, a projector, like myself, or a reflector. So what does all of that mean? It basically refers to your energy or your aura. So it is the energy that you are putting out into this world in its most like basic form, nicole, is a generator.
Speaker 2:A lot of people who find out their generators feel disappointed. They're like um, because they're told they're builders, they're doers and they don't like that. That sounds like awful to them. I think generators are just these amazing, beautiful powerhouses of energy. They make up 35% of the world and you'll notice, in the other type there was one called manifesting generator. They're actually both considered generators. Manifesting generator in some schools of human design is considered a subcategory of generator, um, in other schools it's a completely separate type. But there's a lot of similarities between the two and they both each make up 35% of the world and since they're so similar, that means 70% of the world is operating in a similar energy to you, which is great. I love to work with generators and manifesting generators because I feel like the more of you that I can get into alignment, the more the collective whole of the energy of our universe as we experience it right now will go into alignment as well. Right, like, if the majority of the collective is leading aligned, happy, authentic lives, like, imagine what that will do for the collective energy of the planet. So I love generators and manifesting generators.
Speaker 2:Here's the cool thing about you you have a very magnetic aura as a generator. That's exactly what it means. Like you generate opportunities. That's exactly what it means you generate opportunities. You generate people, situations, things to respond to are constantly coming to you. You generate this magnetic energy and you pull in all of these things to you. It's really, really cool.
Speaker 2:You have what's called a defined sacral. Now I don't want to get too confusing and into all the different pieces, but the sacral center is one of the nine energy centers on your human design chart and the only types that have this defined are generators and manifesting generators, and what this means. The sacral center houses life force, energy. That is the energy to like, to do life right, to like that. It's the physical energy as we know it. The rest of us, the remaining 30% of us, we don't generate physical energy from within. We might absorb it from those around us, but we don't just have this unlimited supply of physical energy, nicole, you do. As long as you're doing something that lights you up and makes you feel excited, and that you're happy, you could do it for hours upon hours upon hours on end and not need a nap, as long as you're I don't do naps, I can't do naps no.
Speaker 2:Right yeah, my husband either he's a manager and he cannot do naps. I am a projector. I nap like it's my business and it is so. It is really really like when I witness a generator in alignment with themselves. They're in what I call their sacral yes, meaning they're doing the things that their whole body responds to. They're so excited to be doing whatever it is they're doing, that energy allows their magnetism to strengthen and then, like it's contagious, and we, all of us around it, we feel it and it's really really cool and you have the power to like supercharge me with energy to then go and do things and and be excited and happy. It's, it's literally contagious. You may have been told in the past, nicole, that like when you're happy, like it's contagious, like everybody around you is happy, or when you laugh, it's contagious, that's typically a generator, because generator is the other way too, cause if I'm in a bad mood, so is everybody else.
Speaker 1:So is everybody.
Speaker 2:Yeah, it really does. Like you, your energy is contagious. So, like, what kind of energy are we putting out as a generator? And and that is what we're attracting back to ourselves? So all of the stuff that you talk about with mindset and gratitude is so important, because you are putting out this magnetic energy. If you are in, you know, a negative headspace or mindset space and you're putting that energy out, that's what you're attracting back to you with that, with that magnetic aura. Do you really want that in your life? No, we want to be doing the things that make us happy, that light us up. So, in business, as a generator, how does this apply?
Speaker 2:First of all, if there's a strategy, like for your marketing or for your business systems itself, how you're operating day to day that a coach told you to do that every time you have to do it you're like I don't want to do this. This is awful. But coach Sally said if I do this, I'm guaranteed to sign $10,000 worth of clients this month. So I'm going to do it, because I paid a lot of money for her coaching and she's the expert. So, all right, I'm doing the thing.
Speaker 2:Well, that's the very wrong thing for you to do in your business Because you are approaching it with this like dread. You're in your sacral. Know, your sacral is literally filling your body with this dread Because it's trying to tell you nope, that's not in alignment for us, don't do that, it doesn't feel good, it's not for our energy. And what happens is you either will attract no clients or you'll attract clients that don't feel good, and then you're just going to create more dread in your business. Oh, now I signed this client and I have to wake up every week and do her session on Tuesdays, and I don't want to. I hate Tuesdays now, Like that sort of thing.
Speaker 2:So, generators in business, you really want to only do the things that feel really, really good. I know that sounds weird. I know people are like, well, that's silly. We can't just only go through life only doing the things that feel good for us. Like I have to pay rent, that doesn't feel good. I have to pay my car payment that doesn't feel good. No, it will start to feel good when you have the money to pay those things and you're just like, yes, I'll pay rent because I love this house and, yes, I'll pay.
Speaker 1:I'm grateful to pay rent, I'm grateful to make a car, but I'm grateful to make those payments yeah.
Speaker 2:Yes and that falls into alignment for you. When you're following the yeses of your sacral, that that translates into your gut. Right, your gut is saying, yes, do this, so do those things. And when your gut says no, no, no, no, no, I don't want to do that, I'm dreading that, I hate that. Don't do those things. You can either let them go and release them from your life altogether or delegate them to something else, that they're things that absolutely have to be done, or how can we reframe it?
Speaker 2:So our sacral response to a yes but you really want to be cognizant of only saying yes to the things. So that means like if your coach told you you had to slide into 50 DMs a day and cold you know, cold pitch these 50 days and that feels like to you yeah, don't do that. Don't do that. That is a waste of your time and your energy and you're going to burn out your sacral. Eventually it'll be like I'm too exhausted, we can't do this anymore, it's unsustainable and you're not going to yield out your sacral. Eventually You'll be like I'm too exhausted, we can't do this anymore. It's unsustainable and you're not going to yield the results that you want.
Speaker 2:Now if your sacral is like, oh my gosh, I'm so excited to connect with 50 complete strangers today and tell them about how I can change their lives. Then that's your sacral telling you, yes, do that strategy. So that's the difference. You want to only do the things that are really lighting you up, making you feel good about your business. It's so important, as a generator with a defined sacral, that you're doing that. The more joy you create in the things that you do, the more joyful things will be magnetized to you and the more success you're going to experience in your business and the more energy you're going to have to work inside of your business. It won't become this drainage like time sucker sort of thing anymore.
Speaker 1:Yeah, but you're dragging yourself through it and then it feels like it's even longer. It's like a whole thing, like no it's a whole thing? Yes, I agree, I love that. So talk to me about because I did mention it, I alluded to it how can we stay in touch with you? How can listeners find out like more about themselves with you?
Speaker 2:yes, so I have a Facebook group called the soulful business collective, which Nicole's going to link in the show notes. Um, it's free to join and every month I do two free events. I do a free human design reading for up to like three to four members and it's like a first come, first serve signup situation. I'll place a post the week prior to the date and say, hey, who wants a human design reading? Sign up here on this post.
Speaker 2:And you just put your name down and then the first three to four. Depending on my energy, I will cap it at either three or four. They get the slots and then we meet up on Zoom and I live stream in the group so everybody can benefit and I do a 15-ish minute human design reading for them and a lot of times we talk about their businesses because it is a human design for business group, but sometimes we'll just talk about like human design and how it relates to their life, so they'll get a little mini reading. The way I do human design is way different. Everything I do is intuitively based, so it's not the traditional, like, I guess, kind of cookie cutter reading that you might get from.
Speaker 2:I don't want to say it in a negative way, but there are some like. It's like a pianist who's classically trained versus a pianist who just sits down and just starts jamming. I'm the one who'll just start jamming, versus somebody else who memorized all the facts and information and like, basically looks at your chart and gives you those pieces of information verbatim from start jamming, versus somebody else who memorized all the facts and information and like, basically looks at your chart and gives you that those pieces of information verbatim from what they learned. I'm going to look at your chart and I'm going to feel into your energy because I am a projector and I see deep into your energetic field. I see deep into your soul, um, and I'm able to like pull out the things that you need to hear from your chart.
Speaker 2:So that's kind of how I do my human design readings for my members and for any of my clients, but that's free. Once a month I do that, and then the other free thing I do in my group is live coaching. So once a month also, we will live stream into the group and you can ask me anything you want about your business, about human design, about your business with human design. Just say hi, but that's your chance to get some one-on-one coaching from me each month. So it's a lot of fun in that group. It's very active in that respect that I'm meeting up with you live twice a month, every month, making sure that you're getting some value out of it. So join me there. I would love to see you Join us.
Speaker 1:I'm in there with you as well, so that would be so much fun, absolutely, and you did mention that you also had a gift for the audience for being here with us today, absolutely so.
Speaker 2:I have a free workbook called Soulful Offers that Sell. It is pretty value packed. It's like a thick, juicy workbook. It's something like 26 pages long. People are like that's your freebie, like I can't help it, man, I go deep. But it's all about aligning your offers to your human design energetics so that it feels good, it feels authentic to you and you'll actually get a response from your audience when you are presenting it in this way. So that will also be linked in the show notes for you to sign up for.
Speaker 1:Yes, it will. And how can they follow you? How can we keep in touch with you and follow along with you on social media?
Speaker 2:Yes, you can follow me on Facebook. Jenna Gargiola. Big mouthful of a name, so Nicole will link that in the show notes as well. Big mouthful of a name, so Nicole will link that in the show notes as well. Um, and I'd love to see. Facebook is my main playground, so I'd like to see you in my group or following along on my my profile. Um, that's where I like to play the most because I find that it's a platform where you can really nurture relationships and strong connections with people, instead of it being about amassing, like, vast number of followers and likes and stuff. I'm a relationships person, so come and connect with me there, say hi, let me know that you listen to this podcast. Let's have a conversation, let's connect, let's get to know each other. I love friends.
Speaker 1:Love it and Jenna's amazing, so definitely encourage you to go join her group and go hang out with her. And before we sign off here, big juicy tip Like what's the best tip that you have for your clients? Give us a preview.
Speaker 2:I'm going to go back to what I was talking about with generators, and I think this applies to everybody. If it feels gross, don't do it. Focus on what feels really good for you. Just because one person said you had to do it this way does not mean it's the be all and end all to business. I think business, just like every single one of us, is completely unique to the person running it. So do what feels good for you.
Speaker 1:Find your own way. And what if you find a new way that works even better? Right, like, like. It's all about innovation, so I love it. Break the mold. So thank you so much for joining us today, jenna. This has been absolutely amazing and we will see you guys next time on the next episode of Overcome Yourself, the podcast. Bye.
